Q: Is Relief Workers International a non-profit organization?

A: Relief Workers International like Relief Riders International is a for profit company. We are currently developing a non-profit structure that will allow for tax-deductible fundraising for our humanitarian programs.

Q: What is Relief Workers International’s mission?

A: Relief Workers International was founded with a unique mission: to combine an extraordinary adventure travel experience with the opportunity for our travelers to deliver life-changing medical care and educational supplies to villagers in need in India. Both Relief Worker participants and villagers are transformed by the experience.

Q: How many guests participate on each trip?

A: We welcome up to 12 participants on each expedition.

Q: How long is the expedition?

A: Each expedition lasts 12 days. Depending on the details of the trips, travelers can spend a couple of days at the beginning and end of each journey sightseeing in the cities of Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Delhi. The rest of the time we are traveling through the breathtaking Rann Desert of Gujarat or Thar Desert of Rajasthan.

Q: What kind of people go on a Relief Workers International trip – do guests need special skills or experience?

A: Our trips are filled with people who want to combine exciting travel with the opportunity to affect positive change for those in need. We welcome those who have a desire to experience the culture of India in a rare way, traveling through this beautiful country while connecting with its people in a powerful and personal way. RWI’s humanitarian programs are designed to provide individuals with the opportunity to serve without having to be a medical professional. The only special skill required is an open mind and open heart.

Q: Does every expedition travel through the same villages?

A: We have several different itineraries, but we visit the same villages year to year to ensure that our relief mission continues to reach more and more of those in need.

Q: What kind of accommodations do you offer?

A: In the cities we stay at excellent hotels. On the trips (depending on itineraries) we may overnight in historic Indian forts, castles or our charming and comfortable tented encampments. Our crew prepares all meals in the local cuisine.

Q: What kinds of activities are guests engaged in to support the relief mission?

A: At schools, Relief Workers help the school children take medicine and distribute educational supplies such as notebooks and pencils. In the general medical camps and the mobile eye surgery camp, Relief Workers operate the registration desk with the help of an interpreter, guide villagers to the appropriate doctor and help distribute medicines.

Q: How many people are treated on each expedition?

A: Relief Workers International treats an average of 2500 people on each humanitarian expedition. This includes treating between 300 and 600 people at each general medical camp, screening and providing general treatment for up to 675 people at our mobile eye surgery camps. Approximately 100 of those people receiving free eye surgery. We visit an average of three to six schools, usually treating 1200 children. To date, Relief Riders International, RWI’s sister company has provided aid to 14,000 people.
